Museum Railway S.T.A.R. (Stichting Stadskanaal Rail) was established in June 1992 with the aim of preserving the Veendam – Stadskanaal – Musselkanaal railway line. You can take a ride on one of the historic trains here. The track runs along the border between Groningen and Drenthe. With a length of 26 km it is the longest museum railway in the Netherlands. One of the historic trains is the large TE 5933 steam locomotive. In addition, the S.T.A.R. possesses another 17 diesel and steam locomotives and a few dozen historic wagons and carriages.
