We are proud to have been certified with the Golden Green Key Certificate with which the two hotels of this brand (Best Western Hotel Groningen Centre and Best Western Plus Hotel Groningen Plaza) meet the highest requirements of the quality mark. They are therefore one of the top certified companies in the Netherlands.
With this Gold Green Key, both hotels want to show their guests, governments and business relations, that sustainable entrepreneurship is key within the organisation. This means that we take it one step further when it comes to thinking about nature and the environment that is required by normal legislation and regulations. We do everything we can to bring as little damage to nature and the environment with our company.
What exactly do we do? A summary of the measures that we have taken regarding sustainability and MVO:
Charity
We collect toners, cartridges and old phones for the CliniClowns Nederland foundation.
Eat and drink
We try to work with mono packaging as little as possible. Our range includes a large offer of organic products with which you can – if desired – compile a complete organic menu.
Energy and water
Rooms and hallways are equipped with energy-savings bulbs and LED lighting. We bottle mineral water. We instruct our staff to use energy efficiently (shut down air-conditioning, turn off the lights and heating in rooms that are not used). We have door closers and automatic doors to help against draughts. We also have taken water-saving measures with taps, showers and toilets.
Waste separation and cleaning
The cleaners use microfibre cloths for cleaning the rooms and the public spaces, all public toilets are equipped with soap dispensers.
For cleaning we only use ecologic materials. These products all have different environmental labels.
All hotel rooms are equipped with soap dispensers instead of disposable packaging.
Instructions for the reuse of towels can be found in the hotel rooms.
Paper, glass, foods and residual waste, are separated.
In collaboration with ReFood, we produce sustainable energy in the form of electricity and warmth, organic fertilisers for agriculture and raw materials for the production of biodiesel, from food, food waste and kitchen waste/swill.
Paper
We use paper and printed material with an FSC and ECF certificate. We print double-sided and prefer to send requested information digitally. We only print invoices upon request. Paper is always reused.
Transport
Both hotels can be reached by public transport of which we stimulate the use. You can also rent bicycles from us. The hotel has its own charging stations for electric bikes and electric cars (for cars only at the Best Western Plus Hotel Groningen Plaza).
Renovations and refurbishments
With all renovations and refurbishments we look for methods and materials that effect the environment as little as possible. With replacement investments we prefer energy-saving equipment.
